Caught the Geocaching Bug

We just recently discovered Geocaching and are completely hooked! When Joy was here we attempted our first cache, but we didn't even have a GPS system, and we didn't do so hot. In fact, we even got snowed on. However, a friend loaned us a handheld GPS, and we logged our first find last Friday. Today, we found 4, but still got stumped on one (it was really cold and we had to make it back in time for Caleb to catch his bus).

Okay, I know some of you are way confused about now. You can check out geocaching.com for more info. But basically, "Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment." When I first looked it up and saw that there were over 230 caches hidden within 20 miles of here, I knew we'd stumbled upon a great (free) family activity. Too bad we are heading into winter though...

I know, it's totally addicting. Kelsea and Rusty are constantly asking to go on a treasure hunt!!

I've always wanted to try this. I thought there was another version of this that doesn't require a GPS. How fun!
